More than Magic Flute (Opera Workshop)

This workshop is an introduction to the world of opera for children aged 8 to 16 years old. By detailed exploration of one of the most famous children’s operas – The Magic Flute – participants will gain deeper insights into the intricacies of this magical world through musical games vocal and performances training and other activities.

Beethoven’s Sonatas are often known as “The New Testament” of Music. The 32 pieces will be played in a row non-stop by pianists from both Hong Kong and Vienna.

The Viennese Waltz is Austria’s most famous national dance and popular during weddings, new year celebrations, balls and other glamorous events. Professional ballroom dancer Micaela Schedlbauer will hold a crash course in this iconic dance supplemented with an introduction to Austrian ball culture and etiquette. We offer two different workshops: one for adults aged 16+ (on 20 August) and another for children aged 8 to 15 (on 21 August).

A cultural dialogue between Jimmy CHIANG, CHOW Fan Fu and LIU Ching-chih.  Together with two heavyweight guests from Hong Kong’s cultural scene, the trained choral, opera and symphony conductor, will deconstruct the characteristics of Viennese music. During the talk the three music experts will explore why music and culture are a human necessity and discuss the importance of classical music for Hong Kong. For those who want to gain more insight into Viennese classical music and the musical development in Hong Kong, this is an event that should not be missed.
